THE PROPOSAL

Brandon started looking for a ring back in October of 2015. Unsatisfied with what were offered by the jewelers, he decided to design a ring himself. With assistance from the newly engaged (at the time), Mr. Danny Wang, he proceeded to get a ring made by a diamond vendor. The ring was finally ready, but he had to wait for a special occasion to pop the question. Luckily, a trip abroad was never far and few in between for us. There was always one coming up in our calendar (may this never change!).
There was already a wedding planned in both of our minds, it was discussed and thought of way before we got engaged. The logistics of having both families living far from each other meant we had to decide on a location that suit both. We picked Phuket a long time before we got engaged and planned a trip to scout for venues when we went back to Perth, Australia in April of 2016.
Upon leaving Perth, we were scheduled to have a stop over in Singapore for around 6 hours, on our way to Phuket. Brandon wanted to go up the Marina Bay Sands tower to propose at the observation deck. Unfortunately, that flight was cancelled last minute and we had to reschedule. We had booked accommodation and transportation to drive around Phuket, we didn't want to miss out on what we already paid for.
We arrived in Phuket after spending a night in Kuala Lumpur's airport. Brandon was panicking because his original Marina Bay Sands plan was completely destroyed. The next best thing that came to his mind was to do it during dinner at the Blue Elephant restaurant.
Blue Elephant restaurant is one of the best in Phuket and they offer traditional Thai cuisine in fine dining style. The building was originally a governor's mansion, built in Sino-Portuguese style. It does not look like a restaurant from the outside at all.

We came at night time, so the building had its lights on at that time. Below is a picture I got from a different website. It was hard to take good pictures at night with a phone, the lighting was always too dark.

We ordered our drinks and food. It was more pricey than typical Thai restaurants, but this was expected.

Pink for the girl, blue for the boy.

Dinner was served in small bowls that were surprisingly deep, we could not finish all the food we ordered.

After dinner, Brandon took me outside and told me to pose in front of the mansion. He said he wanted to take a picture. But then, he came closer and closer. He said he needed to get a close-up photo. He then dropped on one knee and proposed to me with the ring. I forgot what he said or asked, but I knew what was happening. I (of course) said yes and we kissed.

The picture above is a bit dark, but below is a close up of the ring!

Yes, we were looking for venues before getting engaged. Not traditional but that's the story.
